Profile picture of Simon Kennedy

about the artist

Since childhood, from the moment he first picked up a crayon, Simon has been captivated by the power of imagination. To this day he feels driven to explore and depict the vivid worlds that the imagination can conjure.

He believes what we think of as real human reality and the imagination, are inseparable things— it is woven into everything we do.

From the stories that bind societies together to tangible forces that shape the economies, power, law, beliefs, and personal identity. The inner life of the mind is as real and material as anything in the physical world, an intricate pattern of particles forming our memories, dreams, and perceptions. It occupies the same substance of what we call matter.

But who, then, is the dreamer?

Art, though in this era, a luxury; is deeply embedded in culture, economics, and politics. It is a form of power and cannot be separated from the systems that regulate the classes. Through his work he seeks to create images that invite contemplation, offering moments of pause in the ever-unfolding narrative of life.

Images themselves are given power by us—they structure our thoughts, shape our moral understanding, and define our sense of belonging.

While he doesn’t believe art alone can liberate in a material sense, he does believe it can express emotions that words often fail to capture.

For him, drawing is a way of engaging with the world—a means of storytelling that prioritizes the act of telling over any fixed meaning. His work is an attempt to articulate this through each mark of his pen.
